As you will know, the season finale has now been aired! For those of you who have not seen it yet, brace yourselves for a cracker! It's one heck of an episode. Also, you may want to stop reading right about now and come back when you've seen the episode, because I'm about to dish out some spoilers! Edit: We've now got a Comment function, which you can find at the bottom of each news post here on the front page. So please feel free to share your thoughts on yesterdays episode! I'll raise some of my own thoughts below, and would love to hear what you guys think! What and episode! I don't even know where to start.. Personally, I thought they may actually let Arthur live to see another episode (with his death being the inevitable cliffhanger), which I suppose would actually be a bit disappointing in a way. No matter, seeing as it didn't happen. I've been scoping out a bunch of TV forums and Dexter discussions, and a lot of people actually seem to be disappointed by the finale (most, however, thought it was brilliant) which surprises me. The most common complaints are things like "they fail to find any clues for 10 episodes, catch the wrong guy in the 11th, then manage to track Arthur down in half an hour in the finale?" and "how did Arthur find Dexters house, when the only one listed in the white pages was his old apartment?". Both non-issues as far as I'm concerned. The first can be answered by the fact that they previously didn't have a witness nor any direct clues to go on (the logo). The second, well, Deb probably had a diary with numbers and addresses of friends and family, maybe that's where he found it? Anyway! It opens for a lot of questions as for season 5: 1) Will the kids stay with Dexter? Seeing as he and Rita were married, it is likely that he will get custody over the children (if they had not been, her mother may have had a good chance of getting it instead). Does that mean that the next series will focus on Dexter balancing his single parenthood with the dark passenger? 2) How suspicious is Debra of Dexter, now that she knows his past? She certainly looked suspcious when he arrived at Arthurs house as quickly as he did. 3) How will Dexter explain the fact that Trinity apparently killed his wife? As far as the police are aware, there is no link between Arthur and Dexter - and further, will Arthurs family tell the police about "Kyle Butler"? Perhaps even identify him? How would he explain this persona? 4) With the above questions raised, along with the death of his wife, will Dexter perhaps move to a different state and start over? He has a good excuse now that his wife has died - perhaps he will even ask Deb and/or the kids Grandmother to look after the children for a bit while he grieves Rita. 5) And my final thought: Will the series continue where it left of, or will they opt to do a time jump? Perhaps to when Harrison hits puberty and possibly begins to show signs of carrying the same dark secret as Dexter - with the focusing changing somewhat to Dexter teaching Harrison the code, and even bringing him along to his killings? That sums up my thoughts for the episode, and man do I wish it was December 2010 already so I could watch Season 5 start to finish! By the way, don't miss out on the new Comment function that we've added to the site - let us know what you think about the episode and feel free to give your view on some of my thoughts on the finale as well! One last thing - I found this inteview with Clyde Phillips, where he answers some questions about the Finale and what's next! You can read it >here<. Edit #2: I just got sent a link to >this article<where Richard Lawson over at TV.com gives his take on the finale. Its well worth a read, so check it out! |

Besides, the last 4 series was really full of events, what was exiting to watch, and I`m thankfull for it. Great THX to writers, who keeps this series exiting and popular. But I hope, that Dex`s 5th season will be the last with such a brilliant ending.
For some reason, I was never seriously attached to Rita. In fact I was starting to miss the care-free Dexter lifestyle of the 1st season.
The end of the finale wasn't so much sad for me as interesting. Reassuring even. Dexter isn't sad or shocked in a way most people would be. Most ppl would be to shattered to have thoughts after finding their wife dead in a bathtub; all Dex can do is analyze his mistakes as he carries Harrison out of the bathroom.
We just featured an interview with MIchael C. Hall on Parade.com that we thought could be of interest to your users at dexter-tv.com. It would be great if you could link to this article in one of your posts.

The Train: The train Trinity used was a 736 Lionel Lines (clearly shown in the last episode) introduced in 1950, so it was probably Trinity’s, or the same kind he had as a boy. He probably enjoyed the train because of what it represents; trains take us to another place—they’re the escape Trinity wanted all his life, but death seemed to be the only way, and something he often longed for. I may be looking for symbolism where there is none, but at one point while Trinity is shrink-wrapped to the table, he turns his head and looks at the train’s red and black electric control switches and we see them from his POV—they are the center piece of that shot, not the train—he is looking at them specifically. As I watched the scene again later, knowing Trinity is about to die, I wondered if the controls representing switches like those used in an execution’s electric chair. Trinity probably had been thinking about the electric chair for years and knew that was one way he’d escape.
The record player and music: When Dexter turns on the record player and the song Venus starts to play, it starts more than half way through the song, and Trinity sings the lyrics, “I'll give her all the love I have to give, as long as we both shall live”. Strange—why those lines? It’s not by chance they were written into the show—the first line is an ironic description of Dexter’s limited ability to love Rita, the second line foreshadows Rita’s death—by singing those lyrics, is Trinity making fun of Dexter?
Anyway, my prediction for next season is that the two step children will be living with the grandparents, but Dexter will get custody of his son — he’ll want to ensure he’s able to someday teach his son Harry’s code, with some revisions by Dexter.
I think the Grandmother will come back for the two older children for sure and probably fight for the baby too .. so there may be a custody battle happening there ... another scenario would be that Dexter hire a nanny ... possibly one that is new to the country .. and will not question his comings and goings ... I think he will definitely move from that house... and find a better place to store his equipment.
I think as much as Deb may question his past .. I think the mere fact that He has been the only good thing in her life will keep him from being under the radar. I think the person he will have to worry about will be Quinn .... i think he will start following Dexter even more.
I do wonder what will happen with Arther's family and when they gave statements I am sure they would ask "where did Kyle go?" and the police will ask.. who is Kyle?
I think however that since the FBI took over the case, that they will be the ones questioning them at their location .. so the risk of Dexter being seen by them is minimal. Dexter just needs to keep his face out of the newspapers ... The family may even be relocated and names changed since the authorities dont know that Trinity is dead.. right now as far as everyone is concerned he is still out there and has just killed Rita.
I think that the next couple episodes will be slow paced .. as he is given leave time to grieve and to move and get settled.. and he will be reflecting on his mistakes .... and what he needs to do. Deb may even be forced to move for her own protection and maybe Dexter will go back to his old apartment. I am excited and can't wait for it to begin :)
I liked Rita's character and hated to see her die. In fact it made me rather angry at first. But the truth is Rita was taking him down a road to a person that was not who he is. As for the kids, my guess is the older two will live with grandparents, and Dexter will likely have to cope with being a single parent/bloodspatter tech/serial killer. what a combo!
